Discipleship
This week, we were excited to have Ed Kessler join us again to present the morning message. Ed read Jesus’ command when He gave the great commission. In Matthew 28, Jesus tell us to make “disciples”… We are not called to just make “believers” - which is important - but, we are called to make DISCIPLES!
Ed outlined two ways to BE a disciple:
Learn by experience - Pray. Trust. Worship… Experience God and do the things to keep an a relationship with Him.
Formal learning - Mentors. Bible Study. Sunday morning gatherings… Learn through God’s Word.
To be a disciple, and make new disciples, we need to follow the example Jesus set and
Love others.
Look different than the world.
Finally, Ed talked about Jesus’ command in Matthew 11, when He tells us to place His yolk upon ourselves. We don’t often think of what a yolk actually is or offers. A yolk is placed on an ox for two reasons:
Help - It helps keep the straps from digging in, cutting, and hurting the ox.
Guide - It gives the farmer an easy way to move the ox where he needs it to go.
Jesus wants to help and guide us. We need His help and guidance in order to be effective in the body of Christ and make disciples for Him - just like the early church did.
We read and referenced the following scriptures:
Matthew 28:16-20
1 Peter 3:13-17
Matthew 11:28-30
