If Not Heaven…

Harold Paul joined us again this week. Last time Harold was here, we talked about Heaven.... This time we talked about the alternative….

We know what the Bible tells us about receiving Jesus and the Salvation we receive through Him. God gave us His one and only Son. We serve a loving, kind Father.... But He is also a God of wrath.

He went to the cross to redeem us and save us from a terrible place - hell - which is an unpopular topic. Some studies show:

  • 76% Americans believe in Heaven

  • 6% Americans believe in hell

…Some think they will be partying in hell. …Some do not believe in an afterlife. …Some assume because Christians proclaim God is loving that He wouldn't let them go to hell.

Hell is the place of eternal punishment for unrighteousness.

Jesus talks about hell 23 times. He brings up that topic more than he does Heaven.

Hell was not established for people. It was the eternal place of exile for Satan and his angels. Satan was already cast to hell with Adam and Eve sinned.

You can't go to hell by chance, it's by choice.

In Revelation 14:11, the Greek word used for forever is αἰῶνας αἰώνων (aiōnas aiōnōn) which means into ages of ages… Hell is tormenting and it's forever.

Thankfully, after the final judgement, hell will be thrown into the lake of fire.

Everyone ever born is written in the book of life. Everyone who accepts Jesus is in the Lamb's book of life.

Hell is a depressing thought. What do we do with this information? Why did God let us know what it is like?

  1. He wants us to know the alternative, just like He wants us to know about the tribulation. Today is the day of Salvation. Jesus is the way to avoid hell!

  2. He wants us to share Jesus!

How do we know where we will go?

Who, in your circle of influence, needs to hear about the good news of Jesus.

Family is the hardest to talk to, but God is calling us to share with everyone.

Harold always keeps us moving through our Bible with Bible calisthenics. Today, we read and touched on the following scripture:

  • 2 Peter 2:4-10

  • Ezekiel 28:11-16

  • Isaiah 14:12-16

  • Revelation 21:8

  • Revelation 14:9-11

  • Luke 16:19-31

  • Mark 9:33-38

  • Revelation 20:10-14

  • Psalm 139

  • Matthew 13:40-42

  • John 3:16
