Nazareth to Capernaum
This morning, Don and Cindy Martz continued leading us on a journey through Israel. Today’s leg of the trip had us tracing the footsteps of Jesus from His childhood home in Nazareth to the area around the Sea of Galilee.
We got to see the synagogue where Jesus would have read Torah in Nazareth as well as the cliffs the people of Nazareth threatened to throw Jesus off of when He revealed that He was the Messiah.
We then visited Mount Arbel, where it is believed Jesus gave the great commission. Jesus is still speaking to us today. Are we listening?
Next stop was Magdala, where Jesus cast out seven demons from Mary Magdalene. This woman went from being tortured to having total peace. She followed Jesus through His entire ministry - all the way to the cross… and then the grave.
Found in Magdala was an extremely well-preserved temple that included the almost perfect, and very ornate, Magdala Stone.
And finally we will join the crowd at Capernaum where Jesus healed the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years (the one He called, “daughter”…which is the only recorded time He ever used that name), and He raised a daughter of Jarius from the dead.
Capernaum is where most of Jesus adult ministry took place. In fact, 75% of Jesus miracles took place within a 3 1/2 mile radius of this area.
Just as Ed Kessler told us a few weeks ago, Jesus’ miracles validated the Son of God in the signs and wonders.
Bible Verses we read/referenced were:
Luke 4:18-19, 20-30
Isaiah 61:1-2
Matthew 4:13
Luke 8:40-44, 45-48, 49-56
Leviticus 15:19
Matthew 11:23-24
