Miracles, Wonders, and Signs

Ed Kessler joined us once again to bring us part one of his two part series.

Bible verses we read/referenced included (but were not limited to):

  • John 10

  • John 1:1

  • Acts 2:22

  • John 2:1-11

  • John 20:24-29

  • John 1:14

He opened with by asking what we would think if some guy told us he was the Son of God? …We might ask him to prove it, or ask him, “How do you know?”

How did the Jews respond when Jesus presented Himself as the Son of God? They thought he was crazy, possessed, or believed him and thought He was telling the truth. How did anyone believe Him? He performed miracles.

Jesus’ miracles did two things; they 1) convinced people 2) helped people believe.

Miracles, Wonders, and Signs

Miracles = Action of Power

Wonders = Marvel and Amazement of the Miracle

Signs = Meaning of the Miracle

Every miracle has a sign/reason/purpose. Ed led us to look at some of Jesus’…

  • Water to wine = Power over substances

  • Walks on water = He is God

  • Heals royal official's son = Power of life and death from a distance

  • Paralyzed man healed/”sin no more” = He can heal and forgive sins

  • Feeding of 5,000 = If Jesus can feed 5,000 physically, He can feed us spiritually

  • Healed man born blind = He restores and is the light of the world

He did all of this to help us find our way to Him.

Many saw the miracles, but they didn't see the signs.

We have the Bible. We have the ability to read, study, meditate on, pray, and reread what God did in His miracles. May we never miss the signs.

When Jesus turned water to wine, after drinking the wine, the master of the ceremony said, "You have saved the best 'til now.".... Isn’t that so true of Jesus? The prophets were good. God’s servants in the Old Testament were good, but Jesus is the best! God saved the best 'til Jesus.

Sometimes, Jesus was hands-on when performing miracles. Sometimes, He commanded people to do something, and the miracle followed (where He received all of the glory). God can use us - today - to perform miracles (and give Him all of the glory)!

Next week, Ed will be back to dive deep into Jesus’ greatest miracle/sign... Lazarus being raised from the dead. We can’t wait to hear his next message.
