3rd Week of Advent: JOY!

This Sunday was the third week of Advent - the message of JOY.
Luke 2:10-11

This week, we were again joined by Don Chubb II. Don gave us a great history lesson tying the writings of Luke (who was a physician and then investigative reporter on the life of Jesus) to the life of Mary (the mother of Jesus).

While many, over the centuries, have questioned the validity and authenticity of Luke’s writings (in both the book of Luke and Acts), perhaps the best proof of how real Luke’s writings (and the New Testament) came from an archeologist who was seeking to prove the Bible wrong, but was converted when his findings proved everything Luke wrote as right!

So, with there being NO question to the historical context written in the book of Luke, we learn these things about Mary:

• She made herself available - to God’s call on her life

• She knew what it was like to be gossiped about - as many rumors of her purity would have been running rampant

• She knew what it was like to run for her life to protect her child - as Herod issued a decree to kill the children Jesus’ age

• She saw the Son that she raised be nailed to a cross - as she was there when Jesus suffered and died for our sins

When we meet Mary in Heaven one day, we can ask her, “What it worth it?” And we know that her answer will be an easy and absolute, “YES!”

So, when God calls us to do something - don’t miss that call because when it is time for us to be asked, “Was it worth it?” We want to be able to give our, “YES!”
