What's Happening at River’s Edge?

We have a name for our new building…

THE BEACON

The concept of a "beacon" in the Bible is often associated with light, guidance, and hope. In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus says, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill that cannot be hidden... Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." This verse encourages Christians to be noticeable examples of faith - shining their light through good deeds and reflecting God's glory.

In the New Testament, Jesus is described as the "light of the world," …a beacon that offers guidance and hope to those who follow him.

Metaphorical Light ~ The term "beacon" is often used metaphorically to represent a guiding light, much like a signal fire or lighthouse, that helps people navigate through darkness or uncertainty.

Scriptural Context ~ While the word "beacon" isn't always used, the idea of light as a symbol of divine guidance is prevalent throughout the Bible. For instance, Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

Being a Beacon ~ The concept extends to believers, who are encouraged to be "beacons of light" themselves, reflecting God's love and truth to others and guiding them towards faith. Christians are called to reflect Jesus' light by living out their faith and sharing the Gospel.

Not your typical “church”…

River’s Edge is a group of believers led by God-fearing, Jesus-saved, Spirit-filled, Bible-reading Overseers (or as some refer to as Elders) who are supported by Deacons (according to 1 Timothy 3:1-13). We meet for worship on Sunday mornings at the Beacon (231 Walnut Street, Millersburg, PA). Everyone is welcome!
